Let Me Do You A Flavor: Easy Appetizers

Hey and welcome back! I hope you are excited for this weeks recipes as they are two easy appetizers that are sure to please. So grab a pen and pour a drink because you will want to hang on to these!

I have only ever had a fried green tomato once in my life and I had actually thought it was a cookie! I was working at the hotel and someone brought in a tray of what I thought were cookies.. nope they were fried green tomatoes and were amazing!

Since our tomato plants are still going crazy in our greenhouse a few weeks ago I decided we should have some fried green tomatoes, and then I forgot about it. Then this past weekend my old friend Joan Browning reached out and told me about the first annual fried green tomato restaurant cook off and I was re-Inspired to make fried green tomatoes.

For this I used (you will need):

2-3 green tomatoes sliced
2 eggs beaten
1/2 cup or so of flour
1 cup or so of yellow corn meal
Oil for frying
Salt and pepper

Put the flour, egg and corn meal in three separate bowls. Slice the tomatoes and sprinkle both sides with salt and pepper. Next dip your tomato slices in flour, then the egg (be sure to shake off any extra) and then into the cornmeal.

Once you get several slices coated go ahead and put some oil in your frying pan and put on medium to medium high heat. Place the tomatoes in the oil once hot and ready, and fry on each side for 2-3 minutes. Some people serve with a dipping sauce or a sauce drizzled on the top- I didn’t need all that, just the fried green tomatoes.

The other appetizer recipe I have is easy but a little time consuming. I have discovered a recipe for the best, crispy chicken wings that are baked! For this recipe you will need:

chicken wings
Baking powder
Parchment paper

Preheat your oven to 250 degrees. Pat your chicken wings dry and put in a bowl – just a few at a time to make sure they all get coated evenly. Sprinkle baking powder on the wings and then sprinkle with a little salt. Rub in the baking powder and salt, flip over and repeat.

Put the wings on a cookie sheet on parchment paper and bake for 30 minutes. Then increase the heat to 425 for 50-55 minutes and just like that y’all, you have crispy wings without frying them!

Since we used to love the ranch wings at Walmart I wanted to recreate them. So when I pulled the wings out I sprinkled dry ranch seasoning on the wings and tossed them around and man were they good and better than Walmart!!

You could put any sauce on them you like – Buffalo, BBQ, honey mustard, sweet Thai chili the list goes on and on. I hope you are able to put these appetizers to good use at upcoming gatherings, and as always I’m sending love from my kitchen to yours!!!
