Fire In New River Gorge Prompts Closure Of Trails

A brush fire in the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve area near Beauty Mountain has caused the closure of some trails.

Nuttallburg, Keeneys Creek Rail Trail and the Headhouse Trail are closed, according to a Facebook post on the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve’s page.

“This closure also includes climbing areas from Short Creek to the Cirque,” the post states. “Fire personnel and equipment will be active in the Lansing-Edmond area.” For those traveling on local roads, caution is encouraged.

Those with Fayette County 911 stated that the call regarding the fire came in at 11:42 a.m. on Monday, November 29.
