Aquatic Center celebrates grand opening with ribbon cutting

What began as an architecture, engineering, and business project at Greenbrier East High School came to full fruition last Sunday as members of the community celebrated the grand opening of the Greenbrier Valley Aquatic Center.

Aquatic center board members, staff, community members and area dignitaries were all on hand to celebrate the opening of this long-awaited addition to the community.

Located on five acres of land provided by the State Fair of West Virginia, the newly constructed aquatic center boasts a therapy pool, a regulation-sized competition pool, a recreation pool, a therapeutic cold deluge shower and a play fountain, all under one roof.

The aquatic center is now operating at full hours, Monday-Friday 6 a.m.-8 p.m., Saturdays 8 a.m.-8 p.m., and Sundays from 12-6 p.m.

Day passes can be purchased, and there are several membership tiers available. Discounts are available for seniors and students.

A scholarship program, Everybody Swims, is available to residents of Greenbrier and surrounding counties. Eligibility for a scholarship is based on gross annual household income and household size. Certain documentation will be required to determine eligibility.

Applications for this program can be picked up by visiting the front desk at Greenbrier Valley Aquatic Center. Contact Darcie McCraw at 681-484-7037 with questions.

In addition to the pools, the aquatic center also offers fitness classes including water aerobics and Pilates. A full class schedule is available on the aquatic center’s website,

The facility also offers a birthday party package for younger swimmers and their pals.

“Sunday afternoon was a lovely gathering of donors and contractors celebrating the completion, the opening, and the beginning,” said Greenbrier Valley Aquatic Center board president Tag Galyean. “Annabelle and I are grateful for the support and the trust of this wonderful community.” Annabelle Galyean is Tag Galyean’s wife and the secretary of the aquatic center’s board of directors.
