Mary Jane (Mary Jean to some) Galford of Marlinton, WV, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2014, at home after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
The daughter of the late Maurice Simmons and Gladys Curry Simmons, she was born in Bartow, WV, on January 24, 1938.
Mary Jane/Jean was known as the Milklady for years. She was a member of the Marlinton United Methodist Church, Red Hat Society, and the Coffee Clutch Group. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Kent R. “Jake” Galford, preceded her in death.
Mary Jane/Jean is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Swecker and husband, Mark, of Monterey, VA, Carol Beverage and husband, Marvin, of Conway, SC, and Cheryl Cassell of Marlinton; five grandchildren, Jessica Suvanto and husband, Dan, and their children, Wrenn and Parker, of Chicago, IL, Brandy Cassell of Myrtle Beach, SC, Ginger Brehl and husband, Joseph, and their children, Hattie and Harper and Baby, Jeremy Swecker and wife, Christina, and daughter, Charlotte, of Weyers Cave, VA, and Christopher Swecker of Harrisonburg, VA; soon to be six great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, James Simmons and wife, Virginia, of Myrtle Beach, Norma Brockway and husband, Richard, of White Sulphur Springs, WV, and William Simmons of Cross Lanes, WV, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 6, 2014, at 1 PM at the Marlinton United Methodist Church with Pastor David Merryman officiating.
