Carl Herbert Cutlip, 80, passed away Monday, June 2, 2014, at his home in Alderson, WV, following a brief illness.
Born March 9, 1934, at Grassy Meadows, WV, he was the son of the late Henry H. and Anna Mae Butler Cutlip.
Mr. Cutlip was a retired heavy equipment operator, having retired after many years of service from Union Concrete in Maxwelton, WV.
Prior to his employment at Union Concrete, he was a coal truck driver at Leckie Smokeless Coal Company in Anjean, WV, and for many years, worked as a timberman at Westvaco in Rupert, WV. Mr. Cutlip also worked at Branch Motor Express in Maryland as a laborer and was also an overhead crane operator for Bethlehem Steel in Sparrows Point, MD. He was also a self-employed logger. Mr. Cutlip was a veteran, having served his country in the United States Army and was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, and go camping. He also enjoyed storytelling, but above all, Mr. Cutlip loved and cared for his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Delbert Cutlip, Robert Cutlip, and Gilbert Cutlip; and four sisters, Opal Meade, Marie Knudson, Wanda Trout, and Ruby Fitzwater.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Madeline Margaret Eggleston Cutlip of Alderson; six children, Christina Ernst and husband, Rick, of Bellevue, IA, Carl “Curtis” Cutlip and wife, Darlene, of Crawley, WV, Betty Young and husband, Larry, of Maquoketa, IA, Ray Cutlip and wife, Dottie, of Asbury, WV, Doris DeLay and husband, Larry of Maquoketa, and Tammy Clay and husband, Charley, of Alderson; two sisters, Lorraine Kalb of Marion, VA, and Jewel Shae and husband, James, of White Marsh, MD; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 7, 2014, at 11 AM at the Lobban Funeral Home Chapel in Alderson with Pastor Jonathan Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Alderson.
Friends may call Friday, June 6, from 7-9 PM at the funeral home in Alderson.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
