A Mercer County man was arrested on Friday, February 5 after an alleged domestic altercation which resulted in the injury of two individuals. Steffan Monroe Howell, 41, of Princeton, has been charged with domestic assault and domestic battery.
At approximately 10:00 p.m. on the date in question, officers responded to a Princeton residence to investigate reports of a domestic assault in progress. Upon arriving on the scene, officers discovered a female victim lying on her back on the floor.
According to the criminal complaint, the female victim advised officers that she, along with her fiancé, had come to the residence after receiving a phone call from her minor grandson, stating that he had been left alone and was frightened. The residence belongs to the female victim’s daughter and boyfriend, Steffan Monroe Howell. The victim further advised that she, her fiancé and Howell all arrived at the residence at approximately 9:40 p.m.
The complaint states that Howell questioned the victim as to why they were there, to which the victim explained that the minor child had phoned and asked her to come. At this time, Howell allegedly blamed the victim for a previous 28-day incarceration, before charging her and pushing her backwards over a chair. When the victim got back to her feet, Howell allegedly slammed her face into the wall. When the victim’s fiance attempted to intervene, he was reportedly pushed to the ground by Howell. The victim’s finance then placed his body on top of the victim to prevent Howell from striking her.
According to the criminal complaint, “(the victim’s fiancé) asked the accused (Howell) to please stop, that the victim needed EMS. The accused (Howell) stated, ‘let the (expletive) die’.”
Officers further reported observing swelling on the victim’s face.
Steffan Monroe Howell is currently being held in Southern Regional Jail on a $2,500 cash-only bond. Howell is also being held on three-additional charges for which he is not eligible for bail.
