The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed the deaths of two additional residents as a result of COVID-19; a 71-year-old Kanawha County man and a 75-year-old Kanawha County woman.
“This is an incredibly difficult time for the families of these West Virginians,” said Cabinet Secretary Bill Crouch in a message posted on the DHHR website. “We offer our deepest sympathies to these families.”
As of Monday, Feb. 22, 2,263 West Virginians have succumbed to complications stemming from COVID-19.
The 238 new cases identified within the last 24-hours brings the state’s current active case-count to 8,795. The daily positivity-rate is 4.84% and the cumulative positivity-rate is 5.51%. There have now been 129,854 total cases of the virus identified in West Virginia since March 17 of last year.
The statewide vaccination effort continues this week. Thus far, 166,272 residents have been fully vaccinated against the virus, with another 269,670 awaiting their second-dose.
This week’s vaccination events are scheduled as follows:
Thursday, Feb. 25 in Greenbrier County, events will be held at the WV Building at the WV State Fairgrounds, located at 947 Maplewood Avenue in Lewisburg. Vaccination hours will be from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. A second event will be held, once again, at the Rainelle Medical Center, located at 176 Medical Center Drive in Rainelle. Vaccination hours will be from 9 a.m. until 20 p.m.
In Monroe County at the Church of God Fellowship Hall, located at 96 Bud Ridge Road in Union. Vaccination hours will be from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. And in Pocahontas County at the Marlinton Wellness Center, located at 326 9th Street in Marlinton. Vaccination hours will be from 12:30 p.m. until 4 p.m.
On Friday, Feb. 26, the Church of God Fellowship Hall will hold a second vaccination-clinic event. Vaccination hours will again be from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
It should be noted that all vaccinations are “by appointment only” and that all clinics are reported as being full at this time.
Pocahontas, Greenbrier and Monroe Counties all remain designated as green on the DHHR’s daily County Alert System map update.
At present, 294 West Virginians are hospitalized with COVID-19, including 80 who are receiving treatment in area intensive care units, and 33 who are being assisted through ventilators. W.Va. DHHR reports that 118,796 residents who had previously been infected with the virus have now recovered.
