A Pocahontas County man was arrested on the evening of Friday, Feb. 19 after reports of an alleged domestic altercation.
Gary Wayne McKenney, 70, of Marlinton, has been charged with domestic assault and domestic battery.
Shortly before 6 p.m. on the date in question, the Pocahontas County Communications Center dispatched deputies from the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Department in response to a battery complaint in the Marlinton area. Deputies were advised by the communications center that an unknown male victim alleged that Gary Wayne McKenney had struck him over the head with a pipe.
According to the criminal complaint, as deputies arrived at the scene they were waved down by a man identifying himself as the victim.
The complaint further states that the victim had a “considerable amount of blood running down his face from an open cut on top of his head.”
The victim advised deputies that McKenney, the victim’s roommate of several months, allegedly stated, “I’m going to knock the hell out of you” before striking him across the head with a metal club.
According to the criminal complaint, deputies then entered the residence and located McKenney in a bedroom. Deputies then took McKenney into custody.
Gary Wayne McKenney is currently being held in Southern Regional Jail on a $600 property-bond or surety. The incident remains under investigation and no further details are available at this time.
