With an infection rate of 16.78% and percent positive of 2.73%, Mercer County has been designated as green on the W.Va. DHHR color-coded County Alert System map for the third consecutive day. As of Friday, February 19, Mercer County has 361-active cases of COVID-19, and a daily positivity-rate of 1.74%. The county’s seven-day testing average is 362-residents per day.
In a social media post from Friday afternoon, Mercer County school officials said, “ Mercer County is green on the WV DHHR map. Students will be on the following schedule for the week of February 22 – 26:
All elementary students will report four-days this week. Friday, February 26 is a scheduled non-traditional day; teachers report to school and students work remotely.
Middle and High School: Last names beginning with A -K will report on Tuesday (February 23) and Thursday (February 25). Last names beginning with L – Z will report on Monday (February 22) and Wednesday (February 24). Friday, February 26 is a non-traditional day, so students will be remote that day.
Keep in mind that snow days or remote days due to weather could change this schedule.”
Despite the repeated green designations, six individuals associated with Mercer County Schools have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past seven-days, including two from the Spanishburg School, two from PikeView Middle School, one from Mountain Valley Elementary School and one from Princeton Primary School.
In a separate social media post, Mercer County school officials stated, “Contact tracing has concluded and those exposed are quarantined. Deep cleaning and disinfection of the affected areas will be completed.”
