As West Virginia nears 130,000 total identified cases of COVID-19 since the onset of the pandemic, the Department of Health and Human Resources confirms deaths attributed to the virus in the double-digits for the third-consecutive day.
Among the 12 confirmed deceased on Friday, February 19 are a 51-year-old Jefferson County man, an 89-year-old Mercer County woman, a 76-year-old Kanawha County man, a 92-year-old Fayette County man, an 87-year-old Jackson County man, an 85-year-old Berkeley County man, a 63-year-old Wood County man, an 88-year-old Wayne County man, a 91-year-old Mercer County woman, a 92-year-old Mercer County woman, an 87-year-old Jackson County man and a 54-year-old Marion County woman.
A total of 2,248 West Virginians have now succumbed to complications stemming from COVID-19.
The 295 new cases identified statewide within the last 24-hours have yielded a daily positivity-rate of 3.12%. The cumulative positivity-rate is 5.52%. At 9.624, West Virginia has now dropped below 10,000 active cases of the virus. A total of 154,798 residents have been fully vaccinated against the virus thus far.
Pocahontas County has a daily positivity-rate of 3.03% and a seven-day testing average of 27-residents per day. There are five-active cases currently being reported. And with an infection rate of 12.13% and percent positive of 2.57%, Pocahontas County remains designated as green on the DHHR’s color-coded County Alert System map.
Greenbrier County has a daily positivity-rate of 1.72% and a seven-day testing average of 187-residents per day. There are 268-active cases currently being reported. And with an infection rate of 9.07% and percent positive of 1.68%, Greenbrier also remains designated as green.
Monroe County has a daily positivity-rate of 0.00% and a seven-day testing average of 73-residents per day. There are 61-active cases currently reported. And with an infection rate of 16.68% and percent positive of 3.00%, Monroe County is designated as yellow for the seventh-consecutive day.
At present, 293 West Virginians are hospitalized with COVID-19, including 68 who are being treated in area intensive care units and 33 receiving assistance through ventilators. The W.Va. DHHR reports that 117,183 residents who had previously been infected with the virus have since recovered.
