Lady Spartans Set to Begin Basketball on March 3

After COVID-19 prevented the Greenbrier East Lady Spartans a legit chance at a basketball state title last season, the 2021 ladies are finally just a couple weeks away from getting back on the hardwood after what has been a long layoff for high school teams around the country.

Last year, the Spartans arrived in Charleston for the state tournament and just hours before their first game against Martinsburg, the tourney was postponed and later in the coming days, canceled completely.

So, the Spartans feel as if they have some unfinished business. However, the team will look a lot different as four-time all-staterHaley McClure, Kate Perkins and Taylor Dunbar have graduated, Amya Damon transferred and Emma Dotson is focusing strictly on her future career with WVU Soccer. There a couple other girls opting out as well.

That is a lot to lose with a shortened season and experience almost a necessity.

Like the boys’ schedule, the Lady Spartans will play a lot of games in the span of a few days. The most days off will be just two at a time all year long and that is where depth will come into play. It remains to be seen if East will have plenty of that depth or not much at all.

The girls will start their season on March 3 when they host the James Monroe Lady Mavericks. As of this writing, only family and members of the same household will be able to attend games in person, but as always, that is subject to change.

The full schedule is as follows:
