The Greenbrier County Department of Homeland Security Office of Emergency Management has issued a Wind Chill Advisory for Western Greenbrier County, WV until 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 17. A Winter Storm Watch for Alleghany, Bath and Rockbridge Counties in Virginia, and Greenbrier County in West Virginia remains in effect until 12:00 a.m. Friday, February 19.
According to the advisory, “Very cold wind chills expected. Wind chills as low as 10-degrees below zero. For the Winter Storm Watch, heavy mixed precipitation possible. Total snow and sleet accumulations of three to five inches and ice accumulations of two-tenths to on-quarter of an inch possible.
Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. The cold wind chills could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken.”
