The Greenbrier East Spartans tentative 2021 football schedule was made public on Tuesday evening, Feb. 9.
After 2020 was abruptly cut short when the final game was canceled, it was a sigh of relief to see a full permanent schedule printed, although as always with COVID-19 things can change in an instant.
A lot of familiar faces will make up the East foes with some new ones also making an appearance on the 10-game slate.
For example, The Spartans will travel to Woodrow Wilson on Sept. 3 after opening the season on the road at Point Pleasant.
Last year, East played Woodrow twice within a five-week period due to the ever-changing COVID-19 schedules. The Spartans blew out the Eagles in the season opener and then defeated them in a shootout several weeks later, which is still remembered by many.
The Spartans will have a chance to avenge a couple 2020 losses when they host Oak Hill on Oct. 8 and Princeton on Oct. 29. That Princeton game will be one to circle on the calendar as the Tigers feature junior quarterback, Grant Cochran who is one of the top signal-callers in the entire state.
All in all, the schedule looks reasonably favorable for the Spartans at first glance. A lot can change between now and then, but fans should be excited about the quality of the five home games if fans are permitted, but that will be a topic that will be up in the air for quite some time.
