The filing period is now over for the town of Rainelle’s municipal elections.
The position of mayor, town recorder and council member are up for election in June.
Robin Williams, Michael Rogers and John Wyatt filled out their paperwork to run for mayor. Wyatt currently serves as a council member.
Bill Bell, current acting-mayor and town recorder, registered to run for town recorder as did Brian Day. Ron Fleshman, James Matheney, and David Spitzer have registered to run as council members.
The last day to file for office was Jan. 30. Rainelle municipal elections will be held June 1.
In other Rainelle news, the contract between the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department and the town of Rainelle has become available.
The contract was signed on Jan. 5. and allows members of the sheriff’s department to provide police coverage in the town of Rainelle, since the town currently lacks a police force.
According to the contract, which was obtained through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, the town of Rainelle will receive 240 hours of service between Jan. 6 and Feb. 29 at the rate of $40 per man-hour. The total cost of the contracted services will amount to $9,600.
The contract also states that the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department will provide vehicles for transportation to, during and from the location of the assignment.
According to Bell, the town of Rainelle is currently restructuring the police department and plans to have its own police coverage as soon as possible.
