Since the West Virginia Daily News last reported on the COVID-19 pandemic, the W.Va. Department of Health and Human Resources has identified an additional 2,960 cases and 46 deaths attributed to the virus.
Among those confirmed deceased are a 64-year-old Barbour County man, an 86-year-old Mercer County woman, a 92-year-old Kanawha County man, an 84-year-old Cabell County woman, a 74-year-old McDowell County man, a 97-year-old Hancock County woman, an 84-year-old Pendleton County woman, an 88-year-old Summers County man, a 65-year-old Cabell County woman, an 87-year-old Hampshire County man, an 83-year-old Wood County man, an 84-year-old Wood County man, a 69-year-old Pleasants County man, a 64-year-old Wood County woman, a 76-year-old Harrison County man, a 69-year-old Preston County woman, a 65-year-old Nicholas County man, a 95-year-old Lewis County man, a 68-year-old Preston County man, a 62-year-old Wood County man, an 89-year-old Wood County woman, an 81-year-old Wyoming County woman, a 70-year-old Logan County woman, a 54-year-old Berkeley County man, a 79-year-old Wood County woman, an 81-year-old Mason County man, an 81-year-old Harrison County man, a 96-year-old Wood County man, a 74-year-old Marshall County man, a 74-year-old Harrison County man, an 84-year-old Kanawha County man, a 79-year-old Wood County woman, an 89-year-old Harrison County man, an 88-year-old Wood County woman, a 71-year-old Mason County man, a 62-year-old Marion County woman, an 88-year-old Wood County woman, a 71-year-old Mason County man, a 62-year-old Marion County woman, an 88-year-old Wood County woman, a 58-year-old Hancock County man, a 68-year-old McDowell County man, a 59-year-old Wood County woman, a 76-year-old Wood County woman. A total of 1,895 West Virginians have now succumbed to complications stemming from COVID-19.
There are now 24,479 active cases of COVID-19 in West Virginia, including the 555 identified on Saturday, Jan. 23. The daily positivity-rate is 7.15% and the cumulative positivity-rate is 5.56%. As of Sunday, Jan. 24, 39,843 residents have received both courses of the vaccine, and are now fully vaccinated.
In Greenbrier County, active outbreaks have been reported at the Greenbrier Health Care Center, the Lewisburg Center (Stonerise Lewisburg) and Meadow Garden (Stonerise Rainelle). In Monroe County, an active outbreak has been reported at the Springfield Center (Stonerise Lindside).
At present, 607 West Virginians are hospitalized with COVID-19, including 151 receiving treatment in the intensive care unit and 70 being assisted through ventilators. The W.Va. DHHR reports that 88,933 residents who had previously tested positive for the virus have since recovered.
