A White Sulphur Springs man accused of felony firearms possession has had his charges refiled and the case moved to the Greenbrier County Magistrate’s office.
Andrew Allen Arnold, 33, has been charged with one count of being a “prohibited person in possession of a firearm” and one count of possession of a controlled substance.
On the evening of Friday, Nov. 27, Andrew Allen Arnold was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a routine traffic stop on Drewery Avenue in White Sulphur Springs. Arnold, as well as the female driver, allegedly informed officers that they were in possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the criminal complaint, upon being asked to exit the vehicle, Arnold attempted to conceal a handgun in his right hand, under his leg. Officers successfully removed the weapon, later identified as a Taurus 9mm G2S, from Arnold and secured it. The complaint states that the weapon was loaded. A fully-loaded extra magazine, as well as a box of 9mm ammunition, were also allegedly found in the vehicle.
Due to Arnold’s two prior felony convictions in the state of Virginia, Arnold is prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Upon searching Arnold, officers allegedly discovered approximately one-gram of methamphetamine laced with fentanyl, as well as additional methamphetamine not containing fentanyl on Arnold’s person. Arnold was then arrested for being in possession of the firearm, as well as being in possession of a controlled substance.
Arnold was originally arraigned in White Sulphur Springs Municipal Court before being released on bond. The charges were subsequently dropped in White Sulphur Springs and refiled through the Greenbrier County Magistrate’s office.
Arnold is currently being held in Southern Regional Jail on a $5,000 cash bond or surety.
