The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported 12 additional COVID-19-related deaths and the identification of 1,070 new cases of the virus within the last 24 hours.
Among those confirmed deceased are a 92-year-old Hancock County man, an 84-year-old Wayne County man, an 87-year-old Fayette County woman, an 88-year-old Berkeley County woman, a 78-year-old Hancock County woman, a 75-year-old Hancock County man, an 81-year-old Hancock County man, a 100-year-old Ohio County man, an 85-year-old Fayette County woman, an 87-year-old Lewis County man, a 60-year-old Cabell County man and a 57-year-old Wood County man.
In total, 1,594 West Virginians have now died due to complications stemming from COVID-19.
Currently, there are 29,257 active cases of COVID-19 in West Virginia. There have been 102,282 total cases identified since March 17 of last year. The daily positivity-rate on Monday, Jan. 11 is 8.77% and the cumulative positivity-rate is 5.38%. The 11,516 laboratory COVID-19 tests performed on Sunday, Jan. 10 bring the state’s seven-day testing average to 15,136 tests per day. West Virginia has received 109,440 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, 92,070 of which have been administered thus far.
At present, 755 West Virginians are hospitalized with COVID-19, 212 of whom are being treated in the intensive care unit while 104 are receiving assistance through ventilators. The W.Va. DHHR reports that 71,431 residents who had previously tested positive for the virus have since recovered.
