All West Virginia Schools will remain on remote learning for the week of Monday, January 11 through Friday, January 15. As of Monday, January 18, is the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday, students are scheduled to return to in-person learning on Tuesday, January 19. Although the W.Va. Department of Education has discontinued publication of the color-coded county education map, Greenbrier, Monroe and Pocahontas counties all remain designated as red on the DHHR’s county alert map system.
In Greenbrier County, meal pick-up will continue this week. Remote and virtual learners can pick their meal boxes at the four secondary schools on Wednesday, January 13, between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. In school learners can pick up meal boxes at their respective school on Wednesday, January 13, also between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
Greenbrier County school officials are also asking for families and staff to provide input to the 2021-2022 school calendar.
In a social media post-dated Saturday, January 9, school officials said, “GCS families and staff are invited to complete our 2021-2022 School Calendar Survey at https://ow.ly/FOuN50CZNjy by January 15. Please find WVDE School Calendar Planning Guidance and sample calendars at https://ow.ly/tM8A50CZNjx.”
Monroe County Schools will also be moving forward with meal distribution this week.
In a social media post dated Thursday, January 7, Monroe County school officials said, “The next food bag pick up will be Wednesday, January 13 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. All bags will be five-day bags. You must sign up for each child separately to receive a food bag at your preferred location. Please reserve your bag(s) using the following link https://tinyurl.com/yc22wllu.”
Pocahontas County school officials would like to make students and families aware of an upcoming virtual financial aid workshop for those wishing to continue their education at the post-high school level.
A shared-post on Pocahontas County High School’s Facebook page states, “Please join us for a free virtual statewide Financial Aid Workshop on Tuesday, January 12 at : p.m. to learn how financial aid can assist you in the pursuit of post-secondary education! This workshop will provide an overview of the FAFSA and the federal and state financial aid resources that are available. Pocahontas County Schools are also expected to continue with meal distribution for the current week. The West Virginia Daily News will provide additional information as details are made available.
