Greenbrier County Schools Board of Education held an emergency meeting today, Tuesday, Jan. 5 to discuss the upcoming planned return to in-person learning. As per Gov. Jim Justice’s directive issued on Wednesday, Dec. 30, all elementary and middle school students will return to their buildings on Jan. 19, regardless of their county’s color designation. High schoolers will also return, provided that their county is designated as any color other than red.
Little in the way of new information was discussed during the meeting. Although the controversy surrounding the governor’s announcement was addressed. Questions remain as to whether the directive for schools to return to in-person learning was a suggestion or a requirement. These questions have yet to be answered. As it stands, at least for the moment, all Greenbrier County students are scheduled to return to their respective school building on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
In the interim, Greenbrier Schools will continue food distribution. In a social media post dated Monday, Jan. 4, Greenbrier County school officials said, “Greenbrier County Schools will distribute five-day meals on Wednesdays for in-person learners at each of the thirteen schools. Remote learners five-day meal boxes will be picked up at the secondary schools on Wednesdays. Pick up times for both will be 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Questions regarding school meals can be directed to jncurry@k12.wv.us.”
Monroe County Schools will also be continuing meal distribution this week.
A post on Monroe County Schools Facebook page reads, “For Wednesday, January 6, meal bags will be ready for pick up from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. All bags will be five-day bags for the week of January 4 through 8.
