Two Greenbrier East Spartan football seniors, Colby Piner and Quentin Wilson, were recently named to the West Virginia all-state teams.
Piner was selected to the first-team as a utility player and Wilson was put on the honorable mention squad as a running back.
Piner also won the Fulton Walker award which is given to the state’s top special teams player. He was awarded that earlier this week and it is named in honor of the former WVU, Raiders and Dolphins special teams star.
After not playing football as a junior, Piner came into 2020 with a vengeance and ran for 1,038 yards and 14 touchdowns on the year and added 26 receptions for 453 yards and four touchdowns.
He received the Fulton Walker award for his 715 kick return yards and four TD’s.
Wilson finished the year with 795 yards on just 90 carries. He found the end zone seven times and led the team with an 8.8 yards per carry average.
Wilson exploded onto the scene in the team’s opening contest against Woodrow Wilson when he rumbled for over 100 yards in the second half which imposed the Spartans will on their arch rival en route to a blowout win.
Both players were seniors in the injury riddled 2020 campaign and will move on to their respective futures.
