A Greenbrier County man was arrested in the early morning hours of Thursday, Nov. 26 on an outstanding warrant for failing to register as a sex offender. David Lee Prater, 34, of Circle Drive in White Sulphur Springs and 10th Avenue in Neola, is being held in Southern Regional Jail on a $10,000 bond.
Prater was convicted of third degree sexual abuse in Monroe County in April 2013.
As stated in the criminal complaint, “All registered sex offenders in this state are required, at a minimum, to physically register at their local detachment once per year for an ‘annual’ type of verification of all of their information during the month of their birth. Even if there are no changes at all to the sex offender’s information, they are still required to perform this ‘annual’ type of registration.”
Prater last registered with the Lewisburg Detachment on Dec. 7, 2015. Convicted sex offenders are required by law to perform these “annual registrations” every year for the remainder of their life.
