The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources has begun sending out applications for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program. The applications, which began being mailed out on Monday, November 16, must be completed and returned by December 18.
Eligibility for the LIEAP is based upon a sliding scale, using both household size and income as determining qualifications. The maximum allowable gross income for a household of one is $1,931 per month, for a household of five is $4,307 per month and a household of 10 is $7,277 per month.
A statement on the DHHR website reads, “ If determined eligible, a one-time payment will be issued to the Public Service Commission-regulated heating vendor indicated on the application. If the household heats with bulk fuel, i.e., wood, coal, or liquified petroleum gas, the payment will be mailed to the individual.”
Applications may be filled out and returned by mail to the local DHHR office, or it can be completed online by visiting wvpath.org. Households that participated in the LIEAP last season will automatically be mailed an application for the current season.
