The community of Lewisburg recently gained a new business called Mountain Made Engraving headed by owner Sam Laxton. This business provides high-quality laser engraving on all manner of surfaces. I was recently able to sit down and talk with Mr. Laxton about his new business, what it has been like opening during a pandemic and what customers can expect.

Mountain Made Engraving is currently operating in conjunction with another Lewisburg business, Tattered & Worn Antiques. They offer laser engraving and etching on wood, ceramic, guns and much more. Some of their most popular items include their custom cutting boards and metal tumblers.

When asked what he wants people to know about his new business, Laxton emphasized that there is no limit on the possibilities except the customer’s imagination. He wants customers to know that even if they do not see anything like what they are looking for on the shop’s social media accounts, that does not mean it is not possible. The best thing to do is to inquire about what you want. This includes any ideas you are considering for holiday gifts.

Laxton says he was inspired to start this business after losing his job due to the Covid-19 pandemic. During a terrible time, with the help of his aunt, he decided to make the best of it and chase a passion. He also feels that there was a need for this type of business in the area that he is now able to fill. When asked how the opening was affected by the pandemic, he stated that the biggest problem was delays. Otherwise, he says the good thing is that there was no transition phase like for many businesses since the guidelines have been in effect since the business’s inception.

When asked about future plans for the business, Laxton says that they are hoping to expand soon. He wants to add more materials, extend work on current materials and add other products such as decals.

The advice Laxton gives for anyone interested in starting their own business is to go for it, stick with it, and concentrate on building your social media.

If you are interested in learning more about Mountain Made Engraving, you can check out their Facebook page where you will find pictures of their incredible work. If you would prefer, you can also head over to the shop located within Tattered & Worn Antiques at 1717 N Jefferson Street, Lewisburg WV 24901. In Laxton’s words, “the possibilities are endless”. Inquire today about your dream project.
