The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources was delayed in reporting daily COVID-19 numbers on Monday, November 9.
At his Monday coronavirus response, media-briefing, West Virginia Governor Jim Justice indicated that there have been several inaccuracies in the numbers previously reported to the DHHR.
These inaccuracies are in regards to the total number of deaths in West Virginia attributed to COVID-19. An additional 27 deaths, which occurred over the past several months, have now been determined to be due to complications stemming from COVID-19.
In total, Justice read through 44 deaths. Among those confirmed deceased on Monday, November 9, are a 77-year-old Boone County man, an 88-year-old Brooke County man, a 93-year-old Logan County woman, an 80-year-old Fayette County woman, a 54-year-old Fayette County man, an 85-year-old Harrison County man, an 88-year-old Jefferson County woman, a 77-year-old Kanawha County man, a 69-year-old Kanawha County woman, a 69-year-old Putnam County woman, a 95-year-old Kanawha County man, a 93-year-old Kanawha County man, an 81-year-old Kanawha County man, an 88-year-old Kanawha County woman, a 63-year-old Kanawha County woman, a 78-year-old Kanawha County woman, a 73-year-old Kanawha County man, a 54-year-old Fayette County man, a 76-year old Raleigh County woman, a 78-year old Logan County woman, a 79-year old Putnam County man, a 75-year-old Putnam County man, a 73–year-old Putnam County man, an 86-year-old Putnam County woman, a 76-year-old Putnam County woman, a 78-year-old Raleigh County man and a 76-year-old Mercer County man.
The total number of deaths in West Virginia related to COVID-19 is now 530. Justice was visibly emotional while delivering the news.
“The work of all these people, it doesn’t stop because we’ve had the weekend, or whatever, and everybody’s out hanging out,” Justice said. “Everybody’s still working. And I’m very proud to still be working during that period.”
Justice concluded his statement by saying, “You just heard me read 44 great West Virginians that we’ve lost.”
