The Lewisburg City Council met on Tuesday, October 20, for their regularly scheduled monthly meeting. One of the concerns raised at the meeting was an alarming increase in the amount of renovation projects happening within the city that are being performed without permits.
City officials are attributing this trend to the fact that many residents believe Lewisburg City Hall is closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“City hall may be locked, but we are still open,” Lewisburg Mayor Beverly White said during Tuesday night’s, October 20, council meeting.
Lewisburg city residents wishing to begin a new renovation or construction project can print out applications online, or pick them up from the city’s drop box, located in the outer drive through lane at the City National Bank branch on Piercy Drive.
Completed applications can then be returned to the same drop box. All fees associated with permitting can be paid via credit or debit card over the phone. For those planning larger or more complex projects, such as the construction of a new home, appointments are available to accommodate in-person meetings with zoning officials.
“We need people to call city hall before they build, open, renovate or start any begin any type of project. We ask that you call first, not just move forward on hearsay,” White said.
White wants to ensure the safety and confidence of both residents and employees of the city of Lewisburg.
“The work of the city is being done, and the services of the city are being performed,” White said. “We are here for the citizens of Lewisburg.”
Questions regarding permitting for renovation or construction projects within the City of Lewisburg should be directed to Marsha Cunningham in the Zoning Department. Cunningham can be reached at 304-645-3776, ext. 120.
