A Greenbrier County man was arrested on Monday, October 19, for allegedly breaking the arm of his three-year-old daughter.
Michael Shawn Bostic, 29, of Drewery Avenue in White Sulphur Springs has been charged with gross neglect of a child, creating risk of injury or death of a child ages one-year to five-years, and child abuse resulting in injury.
On Sunday, October 18, at approximately 4 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center to investigate a situation involving a three-year-old girl who had suffered a broken arm. According to the criminal complaint, the girl was transported to GBVMC from MedExpress after an initial evaluation was performed of her injuries.
The complaint states that the child’s mother, Angelina Bostic, allegedly advised representatives at MedExpress that the child fell from her bed, and that the child’s father, Michael Shawn Bostic, attempted to catch her. According to the complaint, officers observed severe bruising around both of the victim’s eyes, head and upper arm.
At approximately 5 p.m. on Monday, October 19, officers arrived at the Bostic’s residence on Drewery Avenue to speak with Michael Bostic and check on the status of the Bostic’s other infant child. According to the criminal complaint, Michael Bostic advised officers that the victim had been jumping and she had run into his chin with her face. Michael Bostic allegedly lost his temper after the impact.
The report states that Michael Bostic “picked her up by the arms and one elbow went up and the other went down and he (Bostic) heard a crunch and put her back down.”
While interviewing Angelina Bostic, the complaint states that she advised officers that on the morning of Thursday, October 15, the victim was not listening to Michael Bostic’s directions to return to her bed. Angelina Bostic further stated that Michael Bostic allegedly grabbed the victim’s arm and pulled her onto the bed. A short time later, Michael Bostic allegedly struck the victim in the face with his elbow.
On Monday, October 19, the victim was transported from the GBVMC to CAMC in Charleston due to the severity of her injuries. A temporary emergency order has been issued granting custody of the children to their great-grandmother. Michael Shawn Bostic is currently being held in Southern Regional Jail on a $10,000 cash surety.
