The Americana Thrift Shop has reopened to serve the community in more ways than one. Volunteers are ready to serve customers in the corner store Tuesday through Friday noon- 2 p.m., and on Saturday, September 26, the thrift shop is holding a sidewalk sale at the Old Stone Presbyterian Church from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Americana Thrift Shop offers “extraordinary merchandise at extraordinarily low prices,” of clean, gently used and new clothing, and household goods with all proceeds going to support the community through local charity organizations.
By supporting this shop, Carnegie Hall, Children’s Home Society, Children & Youth Advocacy Center, Family Refuge Center, Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, High Rocks, Hospice Care, Lewisburg Children’s Shelter, Lewisburg Emergency Ministry, Lewisburg/Fairlea Food Locker, Shepherd’s Center Parish Nurse, Medical Benevolence Foundation, Greenbrier Youth Camp and McCormick House can continue their good works.
The thrift store shares its long history, “For nearly five decades, the Presbyterian Women of Old Stone Presbyterian Church have operated the Americana Thrift Shop. It is staffed entirely by volunteers. The vision of these women is a far-reaching project that enables customers to purchase for a nominal price clean and lightly worn clothing, and household goods ranging from spatulas to home office desks.”
Shop sponsors vow to keep prices at “the minimum possible. Because we carefully screen the merchandise we sell, people can find high quality items for rock-bottom prices.
After a brief closure due to the pandemic, volunteer Jill Gwinn said the shop has been thoroughly cleaned, fragrantly scented and aired out in anticipation of welcoming clients and a new fall season.
In addition to regular cleaning of common surfaces, volunteers are following safety guidelines and asking guests to wear masks. No more than two guests should enter at one time. Masks, gloves and hand sanitizer will be available. If the door is locked during store hours, knock and a volunteer will welcome you inside.
Saturday’s sidewalk sale planned at the church is dependent on dry weather. A rain date of Saturday, October 3, has been set.
Americana Thrift Shop is on the corner of Foster and Court streets in Lewisburg. The Old Stone Church is located at 644 Church Street, a quick walk from the shop.
