LEWISBURG (WVDN) – Lawson W. Hamilton IV, a senior and trumpet player at Greenbrier East High School in Lewisburg, was selected to perform in the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) All-National Honor Concert Band in National Harbor, Md., on Nov. 3-6.
The attending students “represent the top performing high school musicians in the United States. So much more than a musical showcase, the program is a comprehensive and educational experience,” as stated by NAfME. Rodney Dorsey, professor of music and chair of the band department at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, conducted the concert band.
When asked about his experience at All-National Honor Band, Hamilton said, “I had an incredible experience and enjoyed meeting fellow musicians from all over the country. I met kids from Boston to Honolulu. My roommate, a trombone player, was from Wichita, Kan. I am thankful for the music education I’ve received in Greenbrier County which helped make this achievement possible.”
Under the direction of Jim Allder, Hamilton is a drum major and member of concert and pep bands at Greenbrier East. Hamilton is also a piano student of Nancy Wood and a trumpet student of Dr. Brennan Wood. For the past three years, Hamilton has been an All-State Band trumpet player. In 2022, he performed at the All-State Solo and Ensemble Recital in three categories: trumpet, “Concert Etude” by Alexander Geodicke, accompanied by Dr. Brennan Wood; piano, “Prelude II” by George Gershwin and brass ensemble, “Mysterium Belli” by friend and co-drum major, Cedric Allder.
Hamilton is the son of Townley and Trip Hamilton. He is the grandson of Pam and Richard Aide of Ronceverte and Peggy and Paul Radike of Roanoke, Va.
