MAXWELTON (WVDN) – The Maxwelton Ruritan Club honored Joan Vance as the 2022 Ruritan of the Year at their October meeting. President Larry Bowman presented the award on behalf of the club.
Vance was instrumental in assuring the club had a successful year at the ice cream concession stand during the State Fair of West Virginia. Although only a member since February, Vance has volunteered for many years helping the club with several projects including the ice cream concession stand. She is a great asset to the Maxwelton club, and they appreciate her desire to help the community. The Maxwelton Ruritans wish to congratulate Vance on a well-deserved honor. Her application will now be sent to the Lower WV District governor for consideration for the District Ruritan of the Year.
The Maxwelton Ruritan Club is civic organization that has been serving the local area since 1953. The members operate an ice cream concession stand at the State Fair of West Virginia, and all proceeds benefit the local community, including donations to local organizations, and provide two scholarships to area high school seniors. They strive to make the area a better place to live, work and raise a family. The club meets the fourth Thursday of each month, except in November and December, at the Henning Church of God on Vago Road.
