Gene was a devoted man of God and served several churches in his life-long career as a Minister. He presently served as Minister at Philadelphus Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church at Maxton.

Gene had a love for music, sharing his talent through singing in the church choir and playing Appalachian music on his dulcimers. He was an Eagle Scout and remained involved in Boy Scouts of America. Gene’s hobbies included taking care of his pets (Ella and Salem), hunting, fishing, and woodworking.

Gene is survived by his four children, Audrey Dmello, Kristen (Adam) Stevens, Allyson (Tony) Zook, and Gene Downing Miller III; his grandchildren, Paige Dmello, Sophie Stevens, and Alice Dmello; his sister, Pamela (Dennis) Deyton; his brother, Bill (Iva) Miller; along with niece and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Leila Miller; and his grandchild, Elle Stevens.

On Thursday, November 10, 2022, a Graveside Service will be at 10:30 a.m. at Philadelphus Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Red Springs, followed by a Memorial Service at 12 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church at Maxton. A reception will follow the Memorial Service in the church fellowship hall.

The family request, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Philadelphus Presbyterian Church, 3834 Melinda Road, Red Springs, NC 28377; or First Presbyterian Church, 303 N. Patterson Street, Maxton, NC 28364; or to the Boy Scouts of America Troop 27, 201 Fayetteville Street, Clinton, NC 28328; or to Stoney Point Fire Department, 7221 Stoney Point Road, Fayetteville, NC 28306.
