HAMLIN, W.Va. (WVDN) – The Greenbrier East Spartans will hit the field for the final time this Friday, Nov. 4, when they travel to Lincoln County to take on the struggling Panthers.
East will have an excellent chance to end their season on a high note and go into the offseason with some positive momentum as well.
Lincoln County has won just one game (Braxton County 38-14) this season and average just 12.8 points each time they step on the field and are letting their opponents put up 37.2.
The Panthers’ rush defense, to put it simply, has not been good at all and has been their biggest Achilles heel on that side of the football.
Key players for Lincoln County:
Blake Adkins
Isaiah Koontz
Lucas Juhaim
Adkins is the quarterback and has some talent but not enough around him to be as successful as he would hope. He threw for over 200 yards and two scores in the lone win over Braxton County.
The talent Adkins does have to help him is Koontz and Juhaim. Koontz has some skill at running back while Juhaim is the top receiver on the team. However, the Panthers’ defense has been gashed all season and the few skill players they possess on offense are not enough to overcome that deficiency.
Keys to the game:
This will be a huge game for junior running back Ian Cline. A 300-yard rushing performance is not out of the question, and he may write his name in the history book beside another record number like he did a couple times last season.
The Spartans are going to run away, literally, with this one early. This has the feel of a 40- or 50-point win for the Spartans, as they will roll the fourth quarter clock and send their seniors off on a good note.
