During an eight-minute meeting, Lewisburg City Council passed an ordinance allowing them to continue to seek authorization for a municipal tax.
On Oct. 25, the special meeting of the Lewisburg City Council was held to provide a second reading and public hearing on Ordinance 311, allowing council to submit an amended, written plan to the Municipal Home Rule Board which provides Lewisburg with the ability to enact a municipal sales and service tax and a municipal use tax pursuant to West Virginia Code sec. 8-1-5a.
There was no public comment at this hearing, and after the second reading the ordinance was passed.
Also, during the meeting, The Lewisburg Downtown Business Association (LDBA) was considered for a grant from Arts and Humanities for $3,700. On Oct. 18, council had asked the LDBA to provide them with an amended application for the funding, which will help the businesses with tourism advertising. With the amended application in hand, the council voted approval with one member absent, John Little.
