LEWISBURG (WVDN) – With cooler temperatures settling in and the holidays just around the corner, wrapping up in a cozy quilt brings the warmth of the season home. The Greenbrier County Convention and Visitors Bureau hosts the Alderson Quilters Guild (AQG) quilt show and sale throughout November. The visitors’ center is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Saturday and 12-5 p.m. on Sundays (starting Nov. 6).
The quilters will share their talents and hard work by filling the visitors’ center with quilts. The quilters will provide the following demonstrations throughout the day on Nov. 4:
10 a.m.-2 p.m. Machine piecing – disappearing four patch
10 a.m.-2 p.m. Strip piecing
2-4 p.m. English paper piecing
The AQG will also be in the GVVC the evening of Nov. 4 for First Fridays After 5 in Lewisburg.
To kick off The Magic of Christmas in Lewisburg the Quilters will return on Nov. 19 for another day of demonstrations. Projects include:
10 a.m.-12 p.m. 2023 raffle quilt assembly demonstration
10 a.m. -12 p.m. Hand quilting
12 p.m.-2 p.m. Quilt-as-you-go
1-4 p.m. Paper piecing, foundation piecing
2-4 p.m. Needle turn – hand applique
At the center of the eye-catching display is the AQG’s “raffle quilt.” Each year the guild collaborates to create a quilt and sells raffle tickets for it. The 2022 raffle quilt, Mountain Maze, will be on display all month with the final tickets sold by Nov. 30. The winner will be notified on Dec. 5.
The AQG has existed for 30 years and is stitched together by their love of sewing and community. The 31 quilters meet monthly to learn new skills, share ideas and showcase their projects. Projects involve “comfort bags” for the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department, quilts for local family centers and shelters, Quilts of Valor for veterans, two quilt shows each year and an annual quilt raffle. This past June, the guild help support the Greenbrier Valley Home and Garden Tour with a raffle quilt. Monthly meetings are held on the fourth Monday in Alderson.
