CHARMCO (WVDN) – Greenbrier West fans saluted the five senior members of their volleyball team Tuesday night, Oct. 18, in a ceremony that preceded a tri-match with Summers County and Oak Hill. The Cavaliers then went out in style as they swept both the Bobcats and Red Devils.
Desteney Walker, Meagan Poticher, Allison Dunn, Ava Barclay, and Michaela Alley were all escorted on the floor by their relatives. Cavalier parents collaborated on gift baskets and flowers for the players and the team assembled for light snacks following their victorious tri-match.
Greenbrier West improved their record to 27-7-2 by winning their ninth and 10th consecutive matches dating back to Oct. 4. In the wins, Poticher notched three kills, one ace, and a block for the night. Walker tallied five assists and two aces. Both Dunn and Barclay had five kills.
On a night West honored its senior group, three underclassmen really stuck out for the Cavaliers. Junior Kadie O’Dell had a match-high 14 kills and two aces. Sophomore Preslee Treadway was stellar as well with a 12-kill, six-ace evening. Riley Robertson, a junior, led all players with 23 assists.
Greenbrier West also recognized the seniors from the visiting teams. Kalila Hames and Madison Bess of Oak Hill and Emilee Smith, Sullivan Pivont, and Liv Meador of Summers County were all presented with a rose prior to the match.
Greenbrier West has concluded the home-portion of their schedule. They go on the road to face Oak Hill on Oct. 24, Greenbrier East and Princeton on Oct. 25, and Midland Trail on Oct. 27. Sectional play begins on Oct. 31, regional action on Nov. 5, and the state tournament on Nov. 9. The Cavaliers have advanced to the state tournament five consecutive seasons.
