Patrick Alfred Smith
(November 17, 1948 – September 13, 2022)

Patrick was born in Princeton, WV, graduated from Princeton High School in 1966. After a stint in Viet Nam as a sergeant, he continued his education at Concord College, where he was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma, graduating with a BS degree in the early ‘70s.

Patrick was active in hospital and nursing home administration, beginning his career at Summers County Hospital and continuing with Princeton Health Care Center and Springfield Center. He was also President and CEO of Princeton Memorial Corporation and was instrumental in starting The Havens Adult Congregate Living Facility and obtaining four local nursing homes in southern West Virginia and adjacent Virginia. He also was a board member of the WV Health Care Association.

Patrick was an avid golfer, at one time carrying a handicap below ten. He also loved boating, fishing, and camping, especially with his grandchildren.

Patrick, of Lewisburg, WV, is survived by his wife, Rae Davis Smith; his two sons, Paton Thomas (Sabrina Dowdy) and Preston Neal (Meagan Tonguis); two beloved grandchildren, Morrigan Alice River Smith and Lucien Teleik Conrad Smith; and his siblings, Patricia A. Smith and David L. Smith. He is also survived by nieces, Martha Anne Barberio (self-proclaimed greatest niece in the world), Cambria G. Smith, Kristin Noel Deal (Brandon); nephews, Patrick D. Barberio (Trish), Russell (Rusty) D. Smith (Ivory), Teleik Daniel Davis, Joshua Nathaniel Davis (Kelsey); uncles, Clarence Donald (Arlevia) Farley and Fred Allen Farley; and aunt, Gladys White Smith.

He was predeceased by his parents, Paton Alfred and Delta Fay Smith; and grandparents, Eda and May Harvey Farley and Paton and Minnie Poe Smith.

A special memorial service will be held on Monday, September 19, at 1 p.m. at the pavilion at Fountain Springs Golf Course, 541 Fountain Springs Drive, Peterstown, WV 24963. His family will receive friends and relatives from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of the following: Jimmy V Foundation, 14600 Weston Parkway, Cary, NC 27513; Princeton Health Care Center Resident Fund, 315 Courthouse Rd., Princeton, WV 24740; or Stonerise-Lindside Resident Fund, 10790 Seneca Trail S., Lindside, WV 24951.
