LEWISBURG (WVDN) – At their regular meeting on Tuesday, June 28, the Greenbrier County Democratic Women’s Club discussed the recent Supreme Court of the United States decision overturning Roe v. Wade and issued a statement to be shared with West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin and Sen. Shelley Moore Capito.
Members approved the following statement:
We, the Greenbrier County Democratic Women’s Club, are appalled by the U.S. Supreme Court’s shocking decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
As women, citizens, voters, mothers, and grandmothers, we implore Senator Shelley Moore Capito & Senator Joe Manchin to stand up for women in West Virginia and across this nation by codifying the rights Roe v. Wade previously protected thereby protecting our reproductive autonomy.
If our reproductive freedoms are not protected, the most vulnerable among us will be disproportionately impacted with low-income families and minorities the most at risk. Criminalizing abortion will not stop abortion it will merely make it more dangerous and deadly.
Make no mistake – West Virginians will die.
The majority of Greenbrier Countians, and West Virginians, support a woman’s right to reproductive healthcare and believe the government should not intervene.
