RENICK (WVDN) – The June 25 Renick Freedom Celebration was not hampered by the few rain showers last Saturday. The parade started festivities and led the attendees down the hill to historic town levee by the river.
Cars found plenty of parking on the large level grass spaces and tents colorfully dotted between the trees around the stage.
Peggy Hollingsworth Lewis took first and third place in the cake competition, as well as third place in the pies.
Sharron Ellis took first place in bread, Shelly Roberts in pie, and Lacy Brown for cookies.
The Parade top trophies went to the Beards in the float category, Garland Simmons’ 1969 Chevelle SS in the antique cars and trucks category, Punkin Center Farms 1952 Farmall in the tractor category, April Morrison in the ATV/motorcycle/golf cart category, and Hannah Fullen and Ruby Red in the horse category.
Fire department winners were Frankford for oldest fire truck and Hillsboro for farthest distance.
