In football, the kicker and punter positions are typically unheralded with no style points or recognition, whereas in reality those positions are two of the most important spots on a football field.
Last week, Greenbrier East Spartan kicker/punter Noah Dotson was named as an honorable mention specialist by the website, coalfields.org. That designation is still good enough for the top 10 in the state.
Last season was a good one for Dotson.
He connected on 5-of-8 field goals and 41-of-44 extra points in an 8-2 season with another state playoff berth for East. He also punted 17 times for a 31.1-yard average.
Coach Ray Lee is excited to have Dotson back for another year.
“Noah has worked tremendously hard in perfecting his trade to be the best kicker. He has shown tremendous improvements in the weight room in our out of season weight program,” Lee said.
“Noah has attended several kicking camps and puts in extra work after hours. I’ve observed Noah at Spartan Stadium on the weekend doing some extra work,” said Lee. “He will have no problems getting in college, he has a great work ethic in the classroom and on the football field. He’s a great role model for all of our students and players here at Greenbrier East. Noah is a tremendous person of character, and we love having him in our program.”
Fans can catch Dotson kicking again this fall for the Spartans.
