After scoring eight runs in the first three innings and taking a commanding lead, the Greenbrier East Spartans rode that momentum the rest of the way on Wednesday night, May 11, in a 9-2 sectional win over the Princeton Tigers.
In the first inning, East got their offense started when Ryan Meguire induced Gabe Patton to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run still scored. Starting pitcher Jacob Roshau then helped his own cause with a 2-run double that gave the Spartans an early 3-0 lead.
Greenbrier East then scored three more in the third frame. In that one, the offense came from a single by Ashton Cochran and a double by Peyton DeHaven. Those runs were on top of Chris Heaster’s 2-run double in the second. After three, East led 8-0.
Roshau took the win for East. The southpaw allowed just one hit and no runs over four innings of work. He struck out five and did not walk anyone. Henry Goodwin threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Meguire took the loss for Princeton. He was hit hard and surrendered five runs on three hits over 1.1 innings and struck out two.
Greenbrier East had eight hits in the game.
Roshau and Darris Boswell both had multiple hits. Boswell was 2-4 and scored four runs and Heaster drove in a total of three runs.
