My name is Thomas Perkins and I’m running for District 10 of the West Virginia State Senate. I’m running because as bad as things are in Washington, there’s alot of things that we can accomplish right here at home. For many years, Washington has lied to West Virginia promising to fix our state’s infrastructure. We were discussing infrastructure reform over 10 years ago.
The reason I’m running for public office is to fix our state’s infrastructure. We can argue about taxes, abortion and other social issues. But the truth is what people care about is having quality roads to drive on, reliable electricity, clean drinking water and a good paying job.
As a child. My mother and father were never married. My father worked for Westvaco now known as WestRock. A paper mill located in Covington, VA. He was a member of the oil gang, also known as Preventive Maintenance. He retired a few years ago. But by watching him, I learned what hard work was really about.
My mother on the other hand was a (CNA) Certified nursing assistant who worked in the healthcare industry taking care of the elderly. This gave me two different perspectives on the world growing up. My father had a good income and my mother lived paycheck to paycheck.
I know what it’s like to rely on social programs such as SNAP and I also understand at how important these programs are to the poor. Most people would not have access to healthcare in our area if it was not for Medicaid.
As a child. I had a normal childhood, played sports, attended public school. Then when I was around 12 years old I got in trouble at school. As a result, I was later removed from my home and placed in the states custody.
In the state’s custody, I was brutally beaten at 12 years old by law enforcement officials. For the longest time I had resentment towards law enforcement. But as an adult, I have learned that the real problem is not law enforcement. But laws that were put in place by elected officials. I also learned that a child does not have a say in our court system. While in the states custody I was abused and drugged for profit. The state of West Virginia takes children away from their families. Puts them in pharmaceutical testing facilities or Juvenile treatment facilities. Children are typically treated like lab rats being forced to take medicines against their will. This is why I strongly oppose mask mandates and vaccine mandates. It’s also why I’m a strong supporter of body cameras for law enforcement and juvenile justice reform.
Returning back home was a difficult challenge after being in the States custody. I missed nearly two years of public school education and struggled to get back on track. This resulted in being bullied in school to the point, I strongly considered suicide. I was removed from the public school system and homeschooled till graduation.
Being home school also had its perks. It gave me the ability to also study things that I found interesting and play video games. So I built my first website when I was roughly 15 years old. By the time I was 18 I was working as a subcontractor for certified Web developers trying to help them and their workload. I was later offered a job opportunity working for a friend’s web hosting company. This took a toll on me as I was typically working 18 to 20 hour days.
I later got out of web design and development. Just cause, the industry is becoming so security conscious. It makes trying to do contract work for anybody virtually impossible. Plus the ridiculous work hours was taking a toll on my personal life. That’s why I got into cryptocurrency and ethereum mining, It gives me the ability to work from home and make my own hours and schedule.
This ultimately gave me the much needed time in order to work on my home. I purchased an old cornfield that had no restrictions on it in Frankford. Then started the long process of developing the property. Dealing with the local building department and health department quickly turned into a nightmare. Dealing with easement issues was even more aggravating.
But as of today for the most part, I’m happy with life. As of now, me and my girlfriend Ashley have been together for nearly four years. We currently have three children together Lucy, Lilly and Jonathan. Jonathan just barely a year old and Lucy and Lily are roughly four months.
Having twin baby girls is definitely a handful. So it definitely keeps me busy and I’m unable to do as much campaigning as I would like. I want to help build a better and brighter future. For my girls and all of West Virginia. I strongly believe with infrastructure being a hot topic and broadband expansion constantly being discussed by the legislator.
I believe that I’m somebody who could help. West Virginia get broadband expanded throughout our state. I know that I’m clueless when it comes to certain issues, but I’m sure some of our current senators are clueless when it comes to broadband and technology.
Whether I win or lose the upcoming primary, I’m hoping this will be a great experience. As I’m looking forward to serving West Virginia one way or another.
