The Rainelle Town Council met in a regular session on Monday, April 25, setting to work right away.
Among the items up for discussion were a new water pump, a flagpole, and a privacy fence.
At the previous council meeting, members discussed the need for a backup pump for the town water plant. The topic was revisited at this meeting, and the council unanimously approved the purchase of a pump after discussion.
Mayor Robin Williams presented the idea of placing a flagpole in the city park to the council. After a brief discussion, a motion was made and seconded, followed by a vote of approval.
Next up for discussion was a town parking lot. Williams recommended an empty lot owned by the city. According to the council, the land is not ideal for building, and the property did not include stipulations upon transfer to the town. Council approved turning the lot into a town parking lot.
A privacy fence to protect the farmer’s market was next on the docket. According to the mayor, there was an issue last year involving refuse from the property bordering the area, such as Round-Up spray blowing toward the farmer’s market. Council voted to construct a privacy fence at the property border to prevent this from happening again. The motion passed.
Finally, the discussion turned to a new code enforcer. An individual has been hired and will begin work presently.
Several citizens spoke at the meeting detailing ideas, concerns and other relevant information.
The next council meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 9 at 7 p.m. All council meetings are streamed via Facebook Live.
