With only three weeks left until the Primary Election on May 10, I am asking for your vote as I seek re-election to the Greenbrier County Board of Education!
Greenbrier County Schools has always been a part of my life. Both of my parents were in the school system as teachers and administrators. I attended Greenbrier County Schools and graduated from Greenbrier East. After graduating from WVU, I returned to Greenbrier County and met my husband. We are the parents of three children, who all attended and graduated from Greenbrier County Schools. I was very active as a volunteer in their schools and realized that I would like to be more involved in making our schools better for our students and staff. Thus, I ran for the Board of Education.
I am very proud of all we have accomplished since I have been serving on the Board. When I went on the Board, many of our buildings were in need of major repairs. We weren’t providing a safe and healthy environment for our students and staff. During my tenure on the Board, we have been able to build a new Rainelle Elementary, a new Lewisburg Elementary, a new Rupert Elementary, a new gym for Ronceverte Elementary, a new auxiliary gym for Eastern Greenbrier Middle School, a safe entrance and building improvements to Crichton Elementary, a new safer traffic pattern and remodeled office area at Smoot Elementary, and a total remodel of Greenbrier West High School. At the present time, we are taking the old High School at Alderson and totally remodeling it to be a state of the art Alderson Elementary. We lack several projects that we are presently working to get funding. We are hoping to remodel Frankford Elementary to get rid of the portable classrooms and put it under one roof, a new gym for White Sulphur Elementary, and an auditorium for Greenbrier East High School. We have come so far, and we should be very proud of our facilities!
The last several years have been hard on our school system. No matter what we were faced with, we have worked to do what we felt was best for each and every student and staff member. These decisions have not been easy, but I think our school system has become stronger and better.
Academically, we work very hard to provide and challenge our students to reach their potential and be successful. Our number one goal is to give each student the opportunity to graduate and be prepared to be successful in whatever they chose to do.
I am asking for your vote on May 10. I will continue to serve the students and staff of Greenbrier County Schools to the best of my ability. I feel we have the best school system in the state of West Virginia!
