LEWISBURG (WVDN) – On Thursday, April 28, Greenbrier East volleyball player Nevaeh Wooding signed her national letter of intent to continue her playing career for West Virginia Tech in Beckley.
Wooding excelled in her Spartan career as a middle blocker. She was a four-year varsity player and started all four of those years as well. As a junior, she was named honorable mention all-state and won the school’s “Most Consistent Player” award.
This past season as a senior, she received second team all-state honors, played in the North-South all-star game, won the “Best Defensive Player of the Year” award and led the team in total blocks/set.
Wooding’s stats also tell the story of her historic career.
She played 442 career sets which is good for ninth in school history. Her 732 kills and 203 blocks rank seventh and third all-time, respectively. She also recorded 146 digs and won 141 career matches (ninth all-time).
So, when Wooding steps foot on the floor for the first time as an official member of the Golden Bears, she will be highly regarded and ready to go.
“I wouldn’t be the player I am if it wasn’t for my coaches. I’m so excited to see what the future holds at Tech,” Wooding said.
Wooding never really thought about calling it a career and when the opportunity came to continue playing, she jumped at the chance.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to play volleyball for as long as I can. Playing for GEVB really paved the way for that,” she stated.
As far as picking Tech, Wooding knew from the get-go that is where she would spend her next four years.
“My first visit there, I was completely sold on the school and the program. I’m really happy to be able to have this opportunity to continue playing,” Wooding concluded with a smile.
Wooding will head to the campus this fall semester, 2022.
