A couple weeks ago, the website Coalfields.org had rated two Spartans, Monquelle Davis and Ian Cline, in their top position groups among football players in the state and in Class AAA.
Well, another one has joined the list as receiver Lucas McCallister checked in as the 17th best receiver in the state of West Virginia.
McCallister is more than a pass catcher, however. He is also a good punt returner, kick returner and defensive back.
Last season, a special one for the Spartans, McCallister was second on the team with 20 catches for 238 yards, which was third on the team. He also caught two touchdown passes. He returned a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns as well. On top of that, he added two rushing scores for a total of six TD’s on the year.
When on defense, he tallied 14 tackles.
But it’s offense and special teams where McCallister will excel in his upcoming senior season. A workout warrior, McCallisterwill be one of the team leaders for Greenbrier East this fall and could see all his numbers from last season double, or possibly triple rather easily this year.
