The Rainelle Town Council met in regular session on Monday, April 11. The meeting’s agenda consisted of announcements, town projects and several guest speakers.
One of the first topics focused on the fence being installed around the water plant. According to the council, the project is close to completion. The estimated date for finishing the project is Wednesday, April 20.
Another project discussed was replacing the cameras at City Hall. The current ones do not record and have other operational issues. An estimate for the replacements has already been acquired and presented to the council. A motion passed unanimously to approve the purchase of new cameras.
A representative from the water plant spoke to the council regarding a potential equipment purchase. Leak detectors, a handheld magnet and meters were all part of the discussion. The council passed a motion to purchase the necessary equipment.
Additionally, a discussion was held regarding the town’s need for a backup well/well pump. The council has not yet taken any action but is looking into options.
Mayor Robin Williams announced that she and the council are planning a spring clean-up event for the town. It would consist of several days where specific items, such as appliances, would be collected. More information will be available at a later date.
A few citizens attended and spoke at the meeting. The prime topic seemed to be whether or not City Hall should be fully opened to the public. City Hall has been closed to the public since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Both sides presented compelling arguments. City Hall will remain locked at this time.
The Rainelle Town Council will meet again on Monday, April 25, at 7 p.m. All council meetings are live streamed to the public via Facebook Live.
