The Rainelle Town Council held its regular meeting on Monday, Feb. 28. The agenda included a presentation from a representative of God’s Way Home, an update on city projects, and other vital topics.
A representative of God’s Way Home spoke on the organization’s progress. According to the report, GWH has secured a second building which will allow them to house eight more individuals. Their current location is equipped to hold eight clients, and the new house will be able to house an additional eight people.
The purpose of GWH is to help individuals leave a life of addiction and work toward rebuilding their lives. Each of the men residing with GWH pays a $400 program fee each month, have re-acquired their driver’s licenses and hold steady jobs. According to the representative, in addition to the program participants, at least six individuals have been placed into rehab and taken off the streets of Rainelle in the last two months.
In other business, it was announced that Mountain Transit Authority transport services are returning to Rainelle. The bus will run each Monday starting Mar. 14. According to the same representative who also spoke on MTA’s progress, the organization will distribute bus schedules to local businesses.
The new bus routes include Rainelle, Rupert, Route 60 to Lewisburg Walmart and will have connections to Greenbrier Valley Airport, White Sulphur Springs, Ronceverte and Downtown. Mid-day service will go to Kroger, Dollar General, Family Dollar and the Rainelle and Rupert city halls.
All transportation services must be pre-scheduled. Residents in these areas must call MTA at 304-872-5872 to schedule services.
Mayor Robin Williams announced that the sidewalk project is now complete. Other projects such as new cameras for the water plant and a fence project will be discussed at the next meeting.
After another brief presentation, the council went into an executive session to discuss an issue regarding an employee. Once the council returned to regular session, Williams stated that no action had been taken.
Williams also confirmed an update to the city council’s COVID-19 protocol, stating that up to 10 individuals from the public will be allowed to attend the next council meeting on Mar. 14 in person. Visitors’ temperatures will be checked at the door.
After the announcement regarding the admittance of the public at the next meeting, Williams called for adjournment.
