HICKS
Evelyn Gayle Hicks, 68, of Lewisburg, WV was called home to heaven on February 24, 2022 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Low Moor, VA after a long battle with leukemia.
Born February 10, 1954, at Clintonville, WV to Harlan R Hartsook and the late Irene Spade Hartsook; Gayle was a lifelong resident of Greenbrier County and spent most of her childhood with two of her siblings and her beloved paternal grandparents and was a 1972 graduate of Greenbrier East High School. She spent her professional career of over 40 years in the reservation office at the Greenbrier Hotel.
Gayle’s favorite activity was spending time with and doing special things for her family and friends and taking care of her cherished dogs over the years. She was a member of the Enon Baptist Church and enjoyed participating in the sewing, knitting, and crafting activities of their various mission and charitable programs.
In addition to her mother, Irene and stepfather, Edward Barutha, she was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Homan and Nina Gilkeson Hartsook; maternal grandparents, Bill and Edith Spade; and sister, Shelby Hartsook Haubert.
Those left to miss Gayle and cherish her memory are her husband, Jim Hicks of Lewisbury, WV; children, Chrystal McNeely (Dana), of Crawley, WV, and Roger G Hinkle of Frankford, WV; father, Harlan R. Hartsook of Crawley, WV; siblings, Shirleen Bishop (John) of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Carol Jaeger of Union Grove, WI, Jim Moten (Susan) of Rosburg, WA, Joyce Martin (Jesse) of Crawley, WV, and Frances Lesher (Joe) of Elkview, WV; grandchildren, Autumn McNeely (Kim) of Greenville, WV, Brittany Gilkeson (J W) of Rupert, WV; great-granddaughter, Paiten Surgeon of Rupert, WV; stepchildren, Jimmy Hicks (Sam) of Pinch, WV, and Christi Hicks of White Sulphur Springs, WV; several nieces, nephews, uncles, and many special friends.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Morgan Funeral Home, Lewisburg, WV with Pastor Sam McClung and Pastor Steve Barnette officiating. Burial will follow at the Enon Baptist Chruch Cemetery, Frankford, WV. Visitation will be 12-2 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Morgan Funeral Home, Lewisburg, WV.
