CHARMCO (WVDN) — The West Virginia Basketball Coaches Association released their 10th Coaches Poll Sunday night, and Greenbrier West re-entered the rankings tied for tenth in Class A.
James Monroe, which has held the top spot in Class A since week eight, solidified its spot at number one with a season-high twenty first-place votes. At 18-1, the Mavericks are positioning themselves for a number one seed in Region III, Section 1 with only four games remaining.
Defending state champion Man claimed the second position with 180 points. The Cameron Dragons used a big week to vault themselves from number eight into the three slot. Cameron defeated Greater Beckley Christian in the Par Mar Stores Shootout last Wednesday and followed it up with an overtime win over Wellsville, Oh., in the OVAC Class A Championship game.
Greater Beckley went 2-2 last week, dropping the Crusaders to number four. Class AAA #3 Shady Spring and Cameron defeated Greater Beckley before they rebounded with wins over Teays Valley Christian and #6 Webster County. The Tucker County Mountain Lions have held onto the number five spot for three consecutive weeks.
The rest of the top five runs in order with Webster County at number six, St. Joseph Central at number seven, Tug Valley at number eight, and Tygarts Valley at number nine. The Bulldogs dropped the West Virginia Hometown Invitational championship to Class AA #6 South Harrison Saturday night. Greenbrier West re-enters at #10 tied with Tyler Consolidated. The Cavaliers defeated Class AA #4 Williamstown last Wednesday in the Par Mar Shootout and claimed third place in the WVHIT on Saturday with a win over East Hardy. Tyler Consolidated entered the rankings for the first time all season after defeating Van, Ritchie County, and Doddridge County.
