Two Beaver residents are now at Southern Regional Jail on multiple felony charges involving vehicle theft.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Raleigh County, Jessica Marie Bailey, 39, and Jason Dwayne Dalton, 35, rented a U-Haul truck with car tow dolly on Oct. 18 “for the sole purpose to pick up vehicles and take them to be scrapped.”
During an investigation by officers with the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department, it was discovered that on October 21, the duo picked up a Ford F-250 truck in Sophia, that had recently been sold at auction by the Kanawha County tax office, and took it to the Midway Scrap Yard, the complaint states.
While at the business, Bailey signed her name to an official DMV certificate, stating that she owned the truck that was to be scrapped. During this transaction, Bailey received $466.20, the complaint continues. Additionally, on October 25, the duo took a 1998 Ford F-150 truck from the Bradley area and scrapped it at the Midway Scrap Yard. Bailey received $442.80 in this transaction.
Both trucks, however, were owned by people who did not “give anyone permission to take the vehicle,” the complaint continues.
Bailey has been charged with one felony count of grand larceny, one felony count of uttering and one felony count of conspiring to commit a felony. Her bail has been set at $100,000.
Dalton has been charged with one felony count of conspiracy to commit a felony and one felony count of grand larceny. His bail was also set at $100,000.
Both were booked at Southern Regional Jail on December 18.
