The Greenbrier East Lady Spartans trailed late, but came back to secure a comfortable and impressive 10-point, 73-63 victory over Mountain Mission (VA) on Friday night December 3 at the Spartan Gym in Fairlea.
Mountain Mission (0-3), who had a lot of similarities as the Spartans as far as play style, would not go away no matter how or what East did on each end of the court.
East (2-0) jumped out to a big lead, then lost it almost like they did in the opener against Janes Monroe, but pulled through when it mattered most.
East shot just 39 percent for the game compared to MM’s 44, but the difference in the contest was at the free throw line. The Spartans went 17-of-20 from the stripe where Mountain Mission converted just 6-of-19, and that is where the game was won for East.
Cadence Stewart led East with 24 points, eight rebounds and four steals.
Allie Dunford may have had her best game in a Spartan uniform as she finished with 15 points, eight assists, seven steals and six rebounds. Daisha Summers had 16 points and nine rebounds, and converted 7-of-8 free throws in the fourth quarter.
Anna Chaca led Mountain Mission with 17 points.
The Spartans were scheduled to play Parkersburg South this past Saturday night, but that game was cancelled.
East is back in action this Tuesday night, December 7 against the Oak Hill Red Devils.
